10 Reasons Families Love PJA

Think for yourself. Work for the world.
PJA’s commitment to teaching students to think for themselves and work for the world is evident in our classrooms and in our commitment to service. PJA inspires positive Jewish engagement, Kavod/respect, and responsibility for our world in which we live.

5,000 Years of Wisdom
Jewish Studies and Hebrew language encourage critical thinking and bring a richness and ethical foundation to all that we do at PJA.

Academically Rigorous
PJA offer a rich academic experience that is project-based and collaborative. Much of our learning combines elements of STEAM (Science + Technology + Engineeering + Arts + Mathematics.) Our engaged approach, fused with Jewish values and service, prepares our students to succeed in high school and beyond.

Faculty Excellence
PJA Faculty bring their passions and expertise into the classroom. They offer students the best of their experience and learning.

Superb Classroom Experience
Smaller class sizes, personalized attention, integrated technology and passionate teachers in each classroom.

More Instructional Hours
PJA has 29% more instructional hours in the day than do Portland Public Schools

Students Care - and So Does PJA
The ethos of our school is service – how can we participate in tikkun olam (repair of the world)? It is part of our Middot – foundational values. Our PJA students, faculty and community participate in a wide variety of service projects throughout the year. PJA wants to partner with our families in making a mensch – a good person who does good things.

Everyone is Welcome
PJA is an inclusive school which strives to recognize, understand and honor all or our families and to foster social justice.

Great Facility
PJA includes a Learning Commons, advanced science lab, three playgrounds, Beit Medrash (spiritual gathering place of study), culinary classroom, two art studios, music room, and maker space. We are also fortunate to have use of the adjacent Mittleman Jewish Community Center, a beautiful facility with an indoor soccer plex and gym for physical education, large ballroom for all PJA performances and events, and a Kosher cafe for students and families to enjoy.

The PJA Community
At PJA we are more than a school – we are a community. We offer families opportunities to learn, celebrate Jewish holidays and other events, and participate in community service together.

Stop by and get a feel for PJA, all ages and grades, from the people who are most dedicated - our PJA families, faculty, and staff - people just like you.
