Dear PJA Day School Families,

As promised, we are following up on our school reopening plans to share information with you about our start of school staggered schedules. Starting school with a staggered schedule allows us to begin with fewer students in the building at one time and gives students and teachers an opportunity to get oriented to new routines and procedures. The schedule for the first three weeks of school is below. Our teachers are working on A/B and half day groupings. We will share these groupings with you by August 3rd. Please note that Weeks 1 and 2 are different from our regular schedule which will begin Week 3 on Monday, September 14.

Week 1: September 1-4 (No School on Monday, Aug. 31)

Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

Tuesday-Friday - half days

8:00-11:30 AM

4th/5th Grades

Tuesday-Friday - half days according to A/B cohort

12:30-3:30 PM

6th Grade

Tuesday-Thursday - full days in person

Friday - online learning

7th/8th Grades

Tuesday-Thursday - online learning

Friday - Orientation Kehillah Day in person (separated into cohorts)

Week 2: September 8-11 (No School on Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day)

Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

Tuesday-Friday - half days

8:00-11:30 AM

4th/5th Grades

Tuesday-Friday - full days according to A/B cohort

Friday - online learning

6th Grade

Tuesday-Thursday - full days in person

Friday - online learning

7th/8th Grades

Tuesday-Thursday - online learning

Friday - Orientation Kehillah Day in person (separated into cohorts)

Week 3: September 14-18

Begin regular schedule

Kindergarten

8:00 AM - 3:30 PM Monday- Thursday

8:00 AM - 2:30 PM Friday

1st-3rd grade

8:00 AM - 3:30 PM Monday- Thursday

Friday - online learning including specials

4th/5th Grades

8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, M/W or T/Th schedule based on assigned cohort. Online learning, both synchronous and asynchronous, on the “at home” days.

Friday - both cohorts in person in separate classrooms

6th Grade

8:00 AM - 3:40 PM (M-TH)

Friday - online program with the whole Middle School

7th and 8th Grades

8:00 AM - 3:40 PM, M/W or T/Th schedule for in person learning based on cohort. Online learning, both synchronous and asynchronous, on the “at home” days.

Friday - online program with the whole Middle School

As per our previous communication of July 17, and now according to the Governor’s most recent order, all students, faculty and staff will be required to wear a well-fitting medical grade or cloth mask indoors and in outdoor situations where distancing is more difficult. We will provide mask breaks during the day and students will be able to remove masks when outdoors, when physical distancing is possible. Please note that face shields cannot replace a mask. Many of you have already begun to have your child wear masks during the day. It is a good idea to practice mask wearing indoors with your child in the coming weeks so they can acclimate to wearing a mask for longer periods of time.

We share this information with full awareness that it may need to be modified, adapted, or changed altogether as conditions related to the Covid-19 pandemic in our region and country continue to evolve. We are monitoring any new directives that come from the Governor's office regarding the reopening of schools and will keep you apprised as information becomes available. We look forward to sharing additional details with you in the coming weeks. All of the information regarding PJA’s reopening plan will be housed on our website at pjaproud.org/k-8-reopening and will be regularly updated.
