Mazal tov to the PJA Class of 2017 alumni who recently graduated from high school and are heading off to new adventures in the coming weeks! This remarkable group of scientists, artists, engineers, athletes, MENSCHES have already overcome many challenges and obstacles. Throughout their high school years, they continued to learn and grow, and give back to the community. Wherever their journey takes them, they will continue to make us PJA Proud!
Mari Litt graduated from St. Mary’s Academy (SMA). Mari enjoyed math class at PJA, and that love has persevered at SMA. Mari is going to Oregon State University for General Engineering, and hopes to minor in Oceanography.
August Marhoefer (Gus) graduated from Franklin High School. In the fall, Gus will attend Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. As a high school student, Gus traveled to Israel with a group called Ultimate Peace which encourages communication between Israeli
& Palestinian teens.
Lyle McCaffrey graduated from Riverdale High School. He ran on the cross country and track teams and spent two years on the robotics team. In the fall, he will be attending Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he currently plans to major in either chemistry or physics.
Yonatan Nachum attended Northwest Academy to practice his artistic skills and start building a portfolio. Next, he will be heading to college at The Savannah College of Art & Design to explore them further in sequential art.
Jared Norman will be attending CU Boulder in the fall after graduating from Sunset High School. He plans on majoring in Economics. Jared had a successful senior baseball season where he played 1st Base and Designated Hitter, batting 4th in the batting order.
Henry Seal graduated from Riverdale High School. He participated in clubs including Jewish Students Union and Outdoor Club, and played varsity soccer and tennis. Henry is very excited to start at the University of Oregon in the Fall of 2021.
Maia Ross is graduating with High Honors from Cherry Creek High School and heading to the University of Rochester in the fall. She was a member of Creek 21, a treble audition choir. This afforded her the opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall for a Veteran’s Day celebration just prior to the pandemic.
Lucy Seres graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and will be attending Bennington College after a gap year. During high school, she was active in theater and volunteered at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education. She is also a board member of Portland Student Pandemic Relief.
Tamar Shuall is graduating from Mountainside High School. She will be attending Linfield University next fall. At Mountainside she participated in the HOSA Club and volunteered as a Student Leader at Outdoor School.
Daniel Vaisburd Williams graduated from Southridge High School in Beaverton. In the summer he will be taking a second trip to Israel through the Birthright program. In the fall, Daniel will be attending Oregon State University at the Cascades Campus in Bend.
