The Early Childhood Art Studio

The Early Childhood Art Studio

We are thrilled to announce the reopening of the Early Childhood Art Studio! This dedicated art space is designed specially for children ages 2-5 by our long-time EC art teacher, Sandi Anslow. Sandi offers our young learners a choice-based (or center-based) art education program that allows children to choose what they want to do. Each week, children come to the art room and find several centers with an ever-changing array of materials where they can express their creativity.

At PJA we believe that making art plays an important role in a child’s social emotional, cognitive, and motor development. As they explore the materials and objects in the art studio, they are building their knowledge of the objects in the world around them. Having autonomy over the materials they use and what they are making gives them a sense of emotional satisfaction. Making art builds children’s self-esteem by giving them opportunities to express their feelings. Drawing, in particular, allows children to symbolize what they know and feel. It is a helpful outlet for children whose vocabulary is still limited.

With soft lighting and quiet music playing in the background, the Early Childhood Art Studio is a space conducive to thinking and creating, where young children can stretch their minds and bodies. Come see the art hanging on the bulletin boards throughout the lower level hallways and check out the white board in the stairwell to keep up with our youngest artists.
