Transitions

The children in our Infant/Toddler program harvested potatoes that had been planted in the spring in the Early Childhood garden and used them to make potato salad to share with one another on their last day of school. While the children were digging, they had an amazing discovery. Our garden was not just growing potatoes but it was also a home to a family of bunnies. You can imagine the excitement when four baby bunnies emerged from the dirt. The bunnies stayed long enough to say hello and then bravely bounced around until they made it out of the garden and under the gate.

Many questions and conversations flowed out of this spontaneous discovery including opportunities to explore the children’s feelings and experiences as they get ready to transition to their new classes. It was a wonderful way to reflect on how much they have each grown and express our excitement about what will happen when they go to their next classroom.
