Hebrew at PJA

PJA takes a proficiency-based, communicative approach to Hebrew. Students learn Hebrew by using Hebrew.

Hebrew at PJA is taught as a living, communicative language. Guided by the ACTFL framework, our program focuses on what students can understand, say, read, and write at each stage of their development.

Students build proficiency by listening, speaking, reading, writing, asking questions, expressing ideas, and communicating with others. Our goal is for students to become increasingly confident, capable, and independent Hebrew communicators.

Jewish Studies at PJA

Jewish Studies combines the studies of Torah and other Jewish texts, holidays and rituals, Israel, and Tefillah (prayer). Central to PJA’s Jewish Studies program is student reflection about the school’s middot (values) and consideration of the ways they express the middot in their own lives.
