A Recipe for Impact

The “PJA Elana Cohn-Rozansky Annual Middle School Shelter Feed” brought warmth, nourishment, and community spirit to the Transition Projects’ Banfield Motel Shelter. This meaningful event honors the legacy of Elana (aka Ms. C-R), who served as PJA’s Service Learning Coordinator and originally launched the shelter feed program.

Generously funded by the Wholistic Peace Institute, this year's shelter feed was also the focus of 8th grader Rafi R’s Capstone project, centered on feeding people experiencing houselessness. Rafi collaborated with PJA’s 6th graders and Coach Elliott to prepare a hearty and delicious meal: pans of homemade macaroni and cheese, baked cookies, green salad, and fruit salad—enough to serve 60 adults.

The event not only nourished those in need but also exemplified the PJA middot (values) of responsibility, respect, and community engagement that Ms. Cohn-Rozansky championed. PJA intends to host additional shelter feeds in the coming school year, keeping the spirit of service alive at our school.
