PJA's First Ever Sukkah Hop

Sukkot was extra special this year at PJA! For the first time, Kehillah organized a school-wide Sukkah Hop. Eleven brave families opened their sukkot throughout the week and welcomed in ushpizin (guests) to celebrate the mitzvah of dwelling in the sukkah. Students and families from across the grade levels gathered together to celebrate the holiday and get to know one another.

Highlights included cotton candy at the Goranson’s, an upside down sukkah by the Katz’s, and edible sukkah making at the Solondz’s. Even the PJA cross-country team made a star appearance at the Khavul’s, arriving on foot, of course!

Part of the fun included collecting stickers for each sukkah visited. People who collected at least four stickers were able to take part in a drawing. Third grader Lillian won an “etrog” stuffie and fourth grader Ruby won Ushpizot magnets of famous Jewish women.

Said Arielle Goranson, “As a host family and guests, this was an awesome experience. It made Sukkot so fun during the whole week; we've never hopped this much! We're in for next year!”

Opportunities like these which help to build relationships outside of the classroom go a long way to strengthening the PJA community. A big mazal tov (congratulations) to our Kehillah co-chairs for organizing this wonderful new tradition and toda raba (thank you) to all of the hosts for graciously welcoming others to their homes.
